It's black and white..

In the process of designing our new house, I thought I had at least a couple of things locked in. Timber floors - yep. Weatherboard exterior - for sure. White timber windows...definitely? They were a no-brainer until I came across my new obsession - black windows. Black is the new black

I love colour. I work with it every day, and choosing a favourite is like asking me to choose a favourite child. But equally, I'm drawn to the simplicity and calm of a simple black and white scheme. It's the perfect neutral backdrop to whatever colour takes your fancy, yet it can stand on its own. Take this last room - it would look equally great with some mismatched cushions, an abstract painting or two, and a few bright accessories. The curvaceous shape was just right, and more importantly, I was really sick of it! If it didn't work out, no problem, I'd just silver leaf it. The most time-consuming part of the whole exercise was the placement of the pattern - it needed to be fairly symmetrical to look convincing. Once that was done, all that was needed was a steady hand and lots of patience! It took much longer to do because I had to be in the mood to sit and paint - and it really can be quite theraputic to work on such a repetitive pattern!
