The Books Cafe' - Irene Nemirovsky Deux

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Today I want to talk to you about a novelist I've discovered only this year. Well, I've heard about <span style="font-size: large;">Irene Nemirovsky</span> and her incomplete work "Suite Francaise" published only after her death in Auschwitz, but only this year (remebering a good advice of a friend of mine - <em>You have to read it, it's beautiful!</em> -)  I've decided to read a little bit about her.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><em>Oggi vi voglio parlare di una scrittrice che ho scoperto solo quest'anno. Today I want to talk to you about this last one, 'cause I think it's one of the <span style="font-size: large;">best book about passion, love and marriage I've read in a long time.</span> Unfortunately I don't know if this one is available in english, 'cause I haven't found news about it.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: Verdana;"><em>Ho letto "Suite Francese" e mi sono innamorata del suo stile, così subito dopo ho letto "I cani e i lupi" e "<span style="font-size: large;">Due</span>". Oggi vi voglio parlare di quest'ultimo, perchè penso sia <span style="font-size: large;">il miglior libro sulla passione, l'amore, il matrimonio che mi sia capitato di leggere da molto tempo</span>. The story is about the <span style="font-size: large;">life and love of a couple</span> from youth untill adult life. I have been impressed by the <span style="font-size: large;">richness of feelings describtions</span>. Irene Nemirovsky knows exactly which kind of words and impressions needs to be used to describe every aspect of love. The passion and pains of the first love, the tranquillity of a long time marriage, the agony of lovers who knows that their story has no future, the melancholy of what it has been and will never be again.</span><br /><br /><br /><em><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> questo libro (pubblicato quando Irene Nemirovsky era ancora in vita), l'autrice disegna il quadro della borghesia francese degli anni 20. La storia racconta <span style="font-size: large;">la vita e l'amore di una coppia</span> dalla gioventù fino all'età adulta. Io sono rimasta impressionata dalla <span style="font-size: large;">richezza nella descrizione dei sentimenti</span>. Just a quick update on the <a href="http://driftwood-interiors.blogspot.com/2011/09/blank-canvas.html">commission for the lovely H</a>. Here's a little look at the underpainting as of last last week, although it's come along significantly since then. A blank canvas

You might remember in my last post I mentioned I was about to start on a commission for a lovely client? If possible, I like to visit the client on-site - that way, I can get a feel for the space, the light, and the bones of the room itself. She has a great mix of traditional and modern in her home, as she's retained the original charm and character of her Queenslander, but she's also included some clean, modern elements too. Elsewhere is a natural white, keeping things nice and airy.<br /><br /><br />So, after discussing the options, we decided on a modern abstract design, incorporating the raspberry, red/pink and olive green from her curtains, as well as some complimentary tones. Once that was sorted, I sent through a series of mock-ups of my ideas, to make sure we were on the same page, and also to provide a visual of what I'm thinking. I've found this really helps both me and the client - I'm a really visual person, but I realise not everyone works that way. By doing so, it really helps to iron out any misunderstandings before we're too far down the track.<br /><br /><br />So, that's enough from me - I have painting to do. I'll post more pics once the piece is all signed, sealed and delivered. Can't wait to share the finished painting with you all - and I have to say, it's a lot of fun to be working on such a large scale piece again.
